Planet Rock's 25th Birthday Bash

Planet Rock’s 25th Birthday Bash

Planet Rock is throwing a special concert at KK’s Steel Mill in Wolverhampton to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

Initially one of the first digital only radio stations, Planet Rock launched seven weeks before the turn of the millennium on 15th November 1999, and the very first song we played was Deep Purple’s riff-tastic anthem ‘Smoke on the Water.’

Now listened to by over a million of you every week, 25 years to the day after our launch we’re hosting a gig at KK’s Steel Mill on Friday 15th November 2024.

We’re delighted to confirm that our good friends Black Star Riders are the blockbuster headline act at the Planet Rock 25th Birthday Bash concert in what will be their first UK performance in well over a year.

“Planet Rock is vital for all of us Hard Rockers playing/promoting the music that we love,” comments Black Star Riders frontman Ricky Warwick. “It’s a totally no brainer and honour for BSR to headline their Birthday gig!”

Black Star Riders’ line-up at the concert will feature Ricky on vocals/guitar alongside guitarist Sam Wood, bassist Marco Mendoza and drummer Jimmy DeGrasso.

It has also been announced, special guests The Answer have now joined the line-up. The Answer take the coveted special guest slot on the night, and they’re sure to be on fine form after wrapping up a European tour in the summer in support of their excellent 2023 album ‘Sundowners.’

Lead singer Cormac Neeson said: “Honoured to be playing the Planet Rock birthday bash! Planet Rock have been big supporters of The Answer from the get go with many of the DJs and folks behind the scenes championing our new music over the years. KK’s is gonna be rocking in November and we can’t wait to be part of the celebration.”

Also confirmed on the bill  is the phenomenally talented Liverpudlian rocker Dan Byrne.

No stranger to Planet Rock events having wowed both Planet Rockstock and Winter’s End with his powerful pipes, Dan Byrne has enjoyed heavy rotation on Planet Rock’s airwaves in recent months with his towering solo song ‘Hard to Breathe.’

Tickets to Planet Rock’s 25th Birthday Bash at KK’s Steel Mill in Wolverhampton go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 24th July 2024.
